Never-before-told, Predator Patrol is the powerful and poignant story about a single mother’s ordeal in caring for two sons after one of them is brutally raped—and how it transformed her life into becoming one of the nation’s most outspoken advocates for getting sexual predators off our streets. It is the story of love, hope, courage, determination, and survival.
Judy Cornett was a happy parent raising two, young athletic boys. Little did she realize her days of attending fun events such as baseball, football, and karate would soon to be in the past. On October 22, 1992, her eleven-year-old son, Jason, was abducted, raped, and left for dead. Every parent’s worst nightmare became Judy’s reality, and her life changed . . . forever.
So distraught and angry at Kevin Kinder, her son’s rapist, she took to the streets and literally tracked him down. In finding him, she also located—and turned over to the police—twenty wanted sex offenders, and with them four of their young victims, all under the age of 8! Despite the fact that her son’s rapist was arrested and sentenced to prison, the family’s nightmare was not over. But the healing process Judy had hoped for was more elusive than she could have imagined.
Judy struggled to learn about her son’s drastic behavior changes (dealing with anger, fear, depression, withdrawal, poor self-esteem, suicide thoughts and attempts, aggression, regression, school problems, hyperactivity, and illegal acts) at a time when there were no victims’ psychiatric programs. Judy and her family coped with the tragic domino effect the tragedy cast upon their family: enduring fears and haunting nightmares, overcoming both legal and emotional roadblocks to bring justice and closure not only for her son, but herself. She often found herself in court dealing with a judicial system that understood very little about the long term effects of sexual predators upon their victims.
But out of her despair, Judy found the strength and courage to use her outrage productively for the good of others: to make it her mission that what happened to her and her family doesn’t happen to others. As an outspoken advocate for victims’ rights, she became a tireless force aiding victims and their families and helping to bring countless offenders to justice. Communities across the nation call on her to educate families about sexual predator awareness. Without Judy’s courage and determination, many sexual predators would still be at large today, stalking their next innocent victim. A deeply personal and moving story about one woman’s love and courage to save her family, it also provides readers with the knowledge needed to keep their own communities safe, so that what happened to Jason, will not happen to them.
