BACK STORY
When Charmaine and her husband adopted Toby, a five-and-a-half-year-old Chesapeake Bay retriever, they figured he might need some adjusting time, but they certainly didn’t count on what he’d do in the meantime. Turns out that Toby was a holy terror who routinely opened and emptied the hall closet, turned on water taps, knocked over the water cooler, pulled and ate things from the bookshelves, and spent his days rampaging through the house, knocking down everything in his path. Oddest of all was his penchant for locking himself in the bathroom, and then push the lid of the toilet tank onto the floor, smashing it to pieces. While much love, understanding and a bit of therapy helped, the real breakthrough came when Toby became a "Pet Therapy Dog," essentially, training that helped him prepare for his special and innate talent to comfort and soothe people. And thus, Toby has become a "new" dog. And now, children of all ages can learn not only about Toby, but how his understanding and love for people helps them to feel soothed, helped and simply loved.

REVIEWS
My 8 year old and I read this book as our special bedtime story. No matter what your age or whether you have a dog, this book is sure to be one of your child's favorite reads!—Shirley Borrelli, Speaker/Author/Image Coach
Toby visited our school, and the kids simply loved it. They asked interesting and insightful questions, and as a follow up activity, they wrote an article about the visit and had it published in a local newspaper. If you have a chance to invite Charmaine and Toby to your school, do it!—Les Worthington, Principle, Entwistle School, Alberta, Canada.
